[question] Using Augmentations

A quick question on Augmentations- "Can be combined with a Push." - does that mean using an Augmentation is the same as Push but with a 1 stress cost OR does it mean that I can also use another 2 stress to Push, in addition to whatever we agree the Augmentation does?

I think the latter, but I want to check because it seems different vs the old version.

Your second guess is right (" I can also use another 2 stress to Push, in addition to whatever we agree the Augmentation does").

It is indeed different from the old version.

awesome. Thanks

by the way - I love this version and this game

Can you please clarify when a player needs to mark 1 stress to activate the augmentation and the mechanical implications of that vs when the augmentation is used just in the narrative. Does a player need to mark 1 stress if they want the augmentation to count as an Edge for an action roll...or does it passively count toward an Edge for a roll and marking the 1 stress does something else?

Thanks for your help!

I explain Augmentations in the FAQ but about your specific question: after the player marks 1 Stress to activate it, the Augmentation should grant an EDGE whenever applicable. Some may require an activation more often than the others, e.g. a shape-shifting dermal plates (once  for each transformation) versus a retractable blade (when it sticks out)—but generally speaking their benefits justify the Stress cost. Also, keep in mind that the GM can "deactivate" or Glitch them as a Consequence!

Thank you for that reply! That helps give me a better sense of when/how often the stress cost is paid and how the EDGE mechanic is factored in as part of the activation and ongoing as long as it makes sense in the narrative based on the type of Augmentation.

Hey Emanoel.

Followup question to Augmentations. If a player wants to use their Augmentation defensively, I know they can mark the Special Resistance box to do so…but do they have to first Mark the 1 stress to activate the enhanced capability before hand as well?

Example: Player has a metal arm with retractable reinforced shield plates that pop out the sides.  They want to use it to block a hail of bullets coming their way. Do they have to mark one stress first to pop the shield plates out and then mark the Special Resistance to pull off the defensive maneuver and reduce/avoid the consequence OR do they just have to mark the Special Resistance (and not mark the stress too) to reduce/avoid the consequence?

-Edit: oh….I just reread the runner file and on page 2 of the Runner file I see line 06. saying “you can mark stress or Special Resistance to leverage your Augment into it.”  So looks to have answered my question…but I’ll leave this here in case you have anything to add/correct!

Thanks for your continued help!

Hey Mosska,

Yep, they don't have to mark Stress in that case, since marking Special is already a fair enough price to pay for its benefits!

Sorry for reviving the thread, does the special resistance stick around?

Or is it a one time consumable

I'm pretty sure it's one time, like armour

Yeah thats what surprised me, armor only tanking one good hit

Developer

It's a one time use. If you're playing Long-shot mode, you can refresh it during downtime phase (panel 7)

That seems like a good compromise, thanks!
