Hello Brodie, here is my advanced feedback regarding your eBook.

Advanced Feedback

Colours:

You use appropriate colours for your background and the page text. The UI for the page text uses a dark brown, I think, on a light beige background. Your buttons are dark with light colours as text. I think the choice of colours for the button is not good. In my opinion, the green and pink button texts are too bright, and these colours do not match the theme of your eBook.

Sprites: The sprites you used are awesome. I am not sure if you made them by yourself, but they are really nice and do not distract from the UI.

Consistency:

Your eBook provides consistency via the layout of your buttons. The navigation buttons are always where I would expect them to be. What I am missing are Icons to replace the text on your buttons, like a play icon to start the text.

Navigation / UI:

Your story uses linear navigation, which makes sense because we look at an eBook. You use two types of possibilities to get to the next page, but there is no way to return to the previous page. You have your navigation bar at the top of your eBook, which is fine, because if I find, for example, the key in the scene, there is no need to go up to the navigation bar, but it is really annoying that every time a new side loaded, I have to move up and click start to get the text. You used the Gestalt design principle – Proximity on your main page to group your page buttons.

Target Audience:

I think your target audience is young people between 16-30. Maybe this story is based on a DND story, which would be funny for these types of people.

Text:

Sadly, you have not provided much text in your eBook so far, but your sample page text is easy to read and follow along. What I do not like is the colour you chose for the buttons. You used a nice font, but for your story, you should use two different fonts to distinguish between UI and page text.

Feedback:

There is not much feedback in your eBook. The only one I could notice was the feedback when pressing a button with the press animation. I would like to have feedback when I hover over the buttons. And there is generally sound missing for actions I am doing. Animation:

You used animation to display the text, and I think this animation is nice.

User Experience:

I do not have such a good User Experience. You used the X-Icon to go back to the home page.  I believe the X-Icon should be used to close an application or a dialogue, not to return to the home screen. The colour of the buttons used is distracting. Some type of other feedback is missing, like sound when pressing a button or clicking on the objects in the scene. For example, you could play a keychain sound when the user grabs the key. But I also have to say that I really like your sprites. They are nice to see and really help to provide a good UX. And another thing. The colours you chose for your itch.io side are not pleasant as well. Look at this article; there, you can see examples of good and bad colour choices such as text and background colour. https://www.thoughtco.com/contrasting-foreground-background-colors-4061363

Conclusion:
I know this is still a prototype, so I am giving you my feedback. I think you could significantly improve the UX/UI by changing just a few things. It is not a bad eBook it is still a prototype; there is just a lot left to do.

Cheers

G.
