I noticed this fighting Thunder-duelist Rene Because otherwise I don't use summons mid battle but Rene can Summon slimes mid battle and I can't.

That's not a glitch, it's by design. Summon Slime is only usable in the menu on the player side. Think of it as a different sort of summoning, or Rene having more experience in summoning slimes than Aura does.
