The unknowing is baffling, the unknown is scary, the unknown is intriguing. How that unknown responds to you and you respond to it, stands to shape what you think about that unknown, least until it is not an unknown anymore. Be curious, be kind, lest you provoke, patience is key, but when confronting an unknown hostility is more easy to come by once one side decides to go with it.
