Those are meters (or yards if you click the scale). The largest "large" cities turn out to be about 1km in diameter and I guess that's around 2 times smaller than the largest real cities in 13th century. Maybe I should adjust it, the conversion rate from abstract units I use internally to meters was chosen rather arbitrarily :)
