Barriers to publishing

What stops you most from publishing your games? Layout, art, playtesting, accessibility features? I'd love to know.

My ideas tend to haunt my google docs and never get a PDF layout.

I can rarely commit to an idea long enough to take it to a finished state.

That's a big ADHD mood. I have so many idea fragments littered around

I try to do the best with what I have, but considering I have no art skills and no layout skills and no money, it tends to just be exported word docs...

Exported word docs definitely get the job done! i've used Canva for a lot of my cover art. Highly recommend if you've never tried it.

Mostly ADHD, can't finish most of what i start. Also art but i'm getting better at it so hopefully that won't be that big of an obstacle at some point

It's exciting to watch your skills grow! and i love the charm of very zine-y style games with even just doodles. Can't wait to see what you create

Once I hit a hurdle that would take more than a couple of days to work through (usually accessibility, sometimes writing more detailed versions of text), I lose momentum and subsequently completely forget about the game entirely until it comes up in conversation or I stumble across its files. This is very much ADHD and memory issuessss (and how difficult finding good how-to accessibility stuff is).

I often find myself in the same boat! If you're looking for resources, I recommend looking up "a11y' https://www.a11yproject.com/resources/#pdfs this is a link to resources on making PDFs accessible

yus! a11y is v neat! I oughta look more into them since I'm doing more alt text work <.< Illinois State University  (which I know nothing else about) has a great resource for using Adobe Acrobat for accessibility, tutorial videos and all~
