Press & Block

Would you be able to offer a brief understanding of the turn mechanic used for Press & Block?  For example, Block says "disadvantage on attacks made and received until next turn".  So, if I use my turn to block an opponent the Opponent has disadvantage on attacks they make till my next turn, and I have disadvantage on attacks received?

Similarly, Press, if I use my turn to press an opponent then they have advantage on attacks they make but I have advantage on attacks received?

So, timing and initiative order is important here I assume.

Do I have this right?

Block: You attack with disadvantage and every attack against you is rolled with disadvantage as well.

Press: You don't move and you attack with advantage and every attack against you is rolled with advantage.

Initiative is always important but both Press and Block effects remain until your next turn.

Thanks to Caverna for answering this.

The intent is to give the players some additional options to attack more aggressively or defensively. For example, I had a situation where one of my players Mage was involved in combat and was being overwhelmed by multiple opponents and she chose to fight defensively (narratively, "I'm going to back away and focus on defending against any attacks") until her companions could assist her.

What I have allowed is the players to call this at the start of each turn which means I can then apply the advantage/disadvantage effect for that individual turn rather than having to remember to apply it the next turn if one person has acted after another. Even though initiative is only rolled once which sets the turn order for the entire combat it still made it a little easier to remember during play.

The key thing here is the player should gain the benefit of the advantage or disadvantage and so should their opponent (even if this falls into the next turn due to turn order).

Hey,  just to clear things up: it seems like you Press or Block as an action, do you still attack when you Press or Block?

Hey Arkh, yes the intention is if you 'press' a person then you attack at advantage against an opponent but risk leaving yourself more open so the opponent also attacks you at advantage and the opposite with 'block' (you still attack but at disadvantage focussing on defence making it harder for the nominated person to hit you so they also attack you at disadvantage).
