The gameplay loop seems interesting, the only issue I have is that the painting mechanic seems really inconsequential. I know it affects the amount of points, but that's only if you kill enemies while there is pink on the screen and the points don't really matter to me anyways. Maybe it would be cool if the paint acted as a sort of defense that slowed enemies down or hurted them?

That's a good idea! I had actually implemented bare-bones status effects and ways for the enemies to see what color they were running into, originally it wasn't just magenta, but I think I was a bit in over my head. It's a good reminder for me to focus on and stick to a cohesive idea before starting!
