I have two questions: Have older versions run correctly for you? And is the rest of the game like this too, or is it just during the start?
Try changing to windowed, if it's full screen.

first question is yeah older versions worked fine, and I haven't been able to get to the rest of the game so I don't know if things would work fine past that. and I always played it windowed.

Pressing the spacebar a bunch of times will get you past the dialog, and maybe to the point where you can continue, but I doubt it. Looks like the color buffer isn't clearing at all.
I'll try to get a fix out soon.
