dunno, I think it's more caused by translations: it is impossible to not lose some details and deeper meaning when rewriting a text in a different language. my preferred genres are scifi and fantasy and there are simple not a lot of good German-speaking authors around, so reading the English sources is simply better (I would *love* to read, say, Stanisław Lem in the original language. don't understand one word Polish, alas)

heh, true. the part I most dislike i English is the more or less random way (to exaggerate _slightly_) how words are pronounced, never found for me a good way to map letters to sounds, with all the exceptions
