It turns out that itch.io was trying to ban specific people who had been scamming the platform by doing things like making people pay for updates by making a new page each time.

It just so happened that the people who were doing this were adult game makers, but they confirmed that they'd have done it against some sfw game makers too had their policy been updated earlier.

They just failed to communicate this because they didn't want to alert fraudsters, but it came at the cost of scaring the adult games community.

Yeah instantly though of them. Their justification, I assume, is that they're the same as the patreon releases but that's just not how itch.io is intended to work, I think.


Except my understanding is that they delete the previous page an then update the next month as the "new" page.

if you search up "pure onyx" it shows every patreon update is $5 except for the may one which is -35% discount
but yeah no theres update for 2023 feb mar apr may, 2022 jan feb mar apr may june jul aug sept oct nov dec
so the pages arent being deleted and reuploaded they're just doing patreon release format on itch.io not updating the same page but making numerous
