My First Game

Soooo... I am participating in this jam to get better or at least get some skills with game development. I have made a few VERY BASIC games in PyGame Zero in Python. I am reasonably skilled at Python but want to start making actual games, so I got Unity and played with it. I started off by programming Roblox games (which was a bit easy for me but I didn't make any good games) for about a year, before moving onto Python and believe it will be easier for me to learn C# due to my programming experience. I have no experience with C# and therefore will be using ChatGPT to help me code the game and learn from the code. This is mainly a learning task for me, and I have a good game concept in mind. Does anyone have any recommendations for my learning journey into C# and Game Development? (I can understand code, and it will be a bit easier for me to learn C# as I have some programming language experience)

Dang, chatGPT be really struggling right now... Took half an hour for it to make a working jump script

Hi Phoenix!

I’m glad you have decided to start creating your first game!

As an experienced game developer I would like to suggest not using ChatGPT to write the code for you entirely. If you have some knowledge of how to program in C# and have already programmed a script (platforming controls in your case maybe) to speed things up it’s okay to use these types of tools, but don’t use it if you have never typed it out yourself! Understanding the code is not enough, you should type that yourself piece by piece!

ChatGPT is good for dealing with errors or complicated problems you’re having but never make him do any work or coding. Trust me, he will only slow you down in this learning curve.

He Gave Up Yesterday

Hi! Thanks for the help but I have decided to not participate in this game jam. I have simply decided I would like to get a bit more knowledgeable with game development without a time limit. I will be participating in game jams in the future but would not like to have a time limit while trying to learn how to make games while making one as it would be a bit too stressful with a time limit.

I will be joining jams in the future when I know enough to actually make a game and will possibly try this jam later aswell!

Yet again, thanks for the help!
