Nice presentation! It kinda reminds me of the classic Chess game that (used to? still does?) ship with Mac OS. I haven’t played backgammon in a pretty long time so I had to look up some rules to remember how it works, but this seems like a pretty nice little version of it.
The physical dice rolling is very cool! As the other commenter mentioned, sometimes the dice roll offscreen, so it might be nice to constrain them to a specific spot or provide another camera that zooms in to show the roll result. Of course, the numbers displayed at the bottom also tell the result but that’s not as fun :)
I don’t quite understand how the game fits into the “side effects” theme, but it’s nice work nonetheless!
