I like this game, it has a charm that not many games nowadays can confidently replicate like this one, and it's solidly built for a pre-release.
Pros:
- The bag is a unique way to add weight to the done-to-death game mechanic of stealing in stealth games. The lack of an inventory makes the bag valuable in the eyes of the player, creating a bond between the player and the bag. It also encourages you to be thoughtful of where you plan to place the bag, and which items you want to be readily accessible, like the dagger and keys.
- The polygonal art style of the world is well made and easy on the eyes.
- The player and npc models aren't to be sneezed at. The marvellous amount of work put into hand-animating these characters can be seen in their fluidity.
Room for Improvement:
- The enemies' pathfinding could be improved, especially for enemies with no set patrol path. If an enemy is too close to an object, like a table, it gets stuck. A knight that chases Rhiri into the sewers can't find its way back out.
- The enemies' lack of object permanence makes running and hiding too easy. The enemies could afford to chase Rhiri for a while longer, or attempt to track her down.
- When an enemy is alerted after seeing you, you can hide behind a cage wall and the game will still act like you're hiding behind an opaque object.
- There is no way to peek out from doorways without the camera pressing into the doorframe and getting a facefull of Rhiri.
Bugs:
- Talking with the chest in the tutorial while giving it an item it doesn't like will spawn multiple text boxes on top of eachother.
- Sprinting a certain distance while holding a crate above Rhiri's head before impacting against a wall will bug her animations for a period of time.
- Pressing the camera against the walls while standing in the sewer water will turn Rhiri's eyes completely black (it also affects the lighting).
- The jumping animation will change to a walking animation when approaching the apex of the jump.
- Interacting with items is a shot in the dark. Sometimes the prompt to pick up an item or put an item into the bag doesn't appear.
