I think you should be able to rotate components. It doesn't make much sense why a 2x1 component like, e.g., the Iron Seller can only be placed vertically like, e.g., the Coal Buyer can only be placed horizontally. It seems like a rather arbitrary limitation, especially when you have a vertical and a horizontal Sorter as two separate items. Just simplify it and add a rotate key!
