Whenever I open the game and choose boy it just freezes and stops working

Okay, know that we are making optimizations for the next build. Focused on modern hardware so 3000 series GPU and up. Results are good so far with an extra 50fps for most machines.
It shouldn't crash. Try the two .bat files in the main directory to change the launch settings. Vulcan and DX12.
