You only use him in one battle, like the sheep. He also only joins the team if you do something right beforehand. That's all I can say ;)
I think i need to use NG+ mode, my bad i only saved when i reached the end, i suspect it is skammer during the fight with the soldiers.
I didn't test NG+ that much so you might just figure out for me if it works all the way to the end game xD If it does it should be way quicker to return to that quest, yeah. Just make sure you keep a backup save.
