The Whipper - Successor to Super Castlevania IV

Hey there everyone!

I'm solely developing a spiritual successor to Super Castlevania IV. It's not a 100% recreation of Super Castlevania's mechanics, some things that didn't need changing are the same, but others are tweaked or completely overhauled. I've also added some mechanics that didn't exist in Castlevania IV. So here goes, in my game you can:

  •  whip in all 8 directions (works exactly like in Super Castlevania IV)
  •  sprint like Richter Belmont in Symphony of the Night
  • shoot projectiles from the whip while sprinting (inspired by the GameBoy Castlevanias)
  • move while crouching (exactly like Castlevania IV)
  • change direction after jumping (similar to Castlevania IV)
  • perform a continuous attack (big change from Super Castlevania's holding attack) 

 Development of this project started on December 30th 2018 ans it's been 2 months of development. So far I only have the character and menu. The menu has full controller support.

Don't bother with build 1 anymore though. As there's a projectile attack in build 2 which isn't in the 1st one.

Hey there everyone!

I just uploaded Alpha Build 003 (You need a Windows OS, a keyboard or any gamepad). It has a complete tutorial stage, in terms of gameplay, but no graphics yet. Still, if you want to try it out, please do so. I'd love to get some feedback. Below I present you with a YouTube video with the stage.

ALPHA BUILD 005 - DOWNLOAD - MORE GRAPHICS

Alpha build 005 is now uploaded! It's the same tutorial stage, but with a lot more graphics.

It's got a lush forest in the background with animated sun rays in the distance. The foreground has green/brown bushes and the platforms have a muddy tone to them.

The floating tutorial enemy still doesn't have graphics. I'm thinking of turning it into a bird and when you finally kill it, the body is gonna detach from the wings, and the wings will fall to the ground randomly.

I should also correct the particle jump effect. Stay tuned.

ALPHA BUILD 006 - DOWNLOAD - TUTORIAL STAGE COMPLETED


In the previous build, the jump particle effect was still a white fluffy cloud looking thing - now it's a muddy effect. Also previously the stage did not have any music. There's now sounds of birds singing in the distance and an ambient melody playing in the background giving the forest a mysterious atmosphere. Finally, the tutorial enemy was just a circle. Now it's a bird. And with that the tutorial stage is complete. Please, try out build 006.
