Nice art style.  The player animation is immediately impressive when the game starts.  I saw your hints, so I had a good idea about the portal and heal mechanic, both worked well.  It was fairly easy to find spots near the portal to farm souls and feed the portal.  When the enemies are shooting at you, it does add a little dodging.  Only being able to shoot horizontally gives the game some challenge and positioning limitations.

Good art style, and the music is good. Have a good jam!

Good stuff. I really wish I could have shot in the direction I looked vs. the direction I was facing. Good work though!
