So, when I get to the 'war' phase/act, there's no way of going back if i don't have a save prior to this event? TT_TT
You can't revert back to any previous act, no, sorry - same as when you entered Act Two. That's why the game asks you about three times if you're really, totally, absolutely, super-duper sure about continuing :)
