Great work. Love the document and the creativity. I like the different animations for side stepping, walking backwards, gives it a touch of polish. Diagonal walking can look a little strange. Just a thought but have you tried to prototype different movement ideas? Such as holding W makes you walk towards your mouse cursor so you can control the direction with the mouse. Currently W always moves you up the screen.
