The very beginning is a bit harsh, it would be nice to have 2 or 3 safe seconds before dying :D
But once the surprise is over, the ascension has a nice difficulty curve. The game is simple but it works well, congrats!
You're 100% right, I wanted to put in a moment of rest before the action, but ran out of time.
