Is the itch version abandoned? As of this writing it seems to be more than 3 months behind Steam, including a major update more than a month ago.

Thanks for you for checking in.
The Itch.IO version isn't abandoned, just not updated as frequently.
The primary reasons are that we have had no purchases on Itch.IO in 2022 and almost no visibility of update announcements to other players, so I wasn't aware that the Itch.IO version was still being used. Additionally, we've had to focus limited development on getting the game on full release in 2023 (Q2-Q3). Diverting development resources during this time is expensive when we need to focus on Switch porting and raising funds for public awareness.
That said, given your interest, we will release an update during or shortly after Halloween 🎃 :)
