To answer some of your questions, I replayed and chose different options to no avail. I also had no special characters in the name. I checked my firewall and it doesn't seem to be the issue. While I haven't seen any error codes anywhere, I did notice I got a file named log in the files for the game after it crashed though. and I usually can run low-end games on it but that could also be an issue.
