Don't even remember when I was so close to giving up in a jam game. And it wasn't really even difficult. I don't mean it in an overly bad way but it was very unfun. Like half of the time I was "playing", it was just me looking at 99% black screen waiting for the sounds to tone down. Not what I'd call intriguing gameplay. Just making the player wait is never really a good choice.

But finally did it after all...

So by the first level with two keys, I was already hoping it was near the end. Obviously it wasn't. But I think that was the level I struggled with the most. It just felt like Stan was camping the left side of the level completely blocking me from it. But yeah, I did beat it and the rest were not that more "difficult" (ie. annoying), beatable on a handful if not two tries. They didn't really introduce anything new either, just more of the same. Sure, the mushroom thing but that offered like zero additional information to me at least. Just felt like Stan was everywhere at all times anyway. He either cheats or there is multiple of him. 🤔

The visuals were pretty nice. The animation was a bit lackluster and there was some z-fighting but overall the pixel art was cool. The lack of feedback on clickables (and at all the need for mouse activated things on 100% keyboard controllable game) was disappointing.

The door/chest/speak detection was janky. The arrow was very finicky on appearing and even sometimes it did appear yet the spacebar did not do anything. Totally not fun in a scenario where you're being chased and just about to enter a chest yet it refuses to work meaning you have to stare at the black screen doing sweet FA listening to splish splash footsteps for a good few minutes.

Was the art inspired by Cult of the Lamb maybe? Really getting the same vibe from the cutesy occult animals...

But yeah, good job! 👍
