Not to nag, but it actually could be "seal." All it would take is the removal of the comma. (If it stays in, then, yes, "sealed" is the correct version)

For example, remove "lash out against our servants, and" and you get, "He would seal himself away in his study for days on end."

No you're right, it's just the first thought that came to mind as the current version was incorrect. :) It's funny because I had thought that "would seal himself away" as another alternative.
