Very often, actually. I used a tip you gave someone else regarding loading old save files on a newer version, and it worked, but that error message comes up usually just seconds into loading those save files
ah, well the gist of it is that old save files generally aren't compatible if they are from too many versions back. One thing you can try is see if you can do a new game+, which might reset everything and let you keep it. Otherwise it's just not compatible anymore I'm afraid.
