HUH
HOW IS THAT YOUR SECOND GAME?
Bro, why are you so talented? xD
No, really, that's a really fantastic job. Do you mind telling me a little bit more about how you developed it?
1. How many days (approx.) did it take to make it?
2. What was the most challenging part?
3. What's the % of used and own-made assets?
4. Have you ever felt like you're about to drop the development of this project? Perhaps you started to feel burned out at the end and etc.
Thank ya in advance <3
Thank you so much! Id love to answer them! :D
1. If you count the days where i didnt work on the game, just how long it took from beginning to release it probably was about 2 months id say which is 60 days!
But if we only count the days where I actually worked on the game i probably spent around a total of all the hours combined around 1-2 weeks!
2. Probably the most challenging part of creating this game was trying to keep the player interested, when I had just started out with the game I realized that going from store to store for a long time will eventually get boring.
So because of that I forced myself to follow one simple rule, every store will be unique in a way that gives the player more content in a way. For example, you pay 15 dollars for musty milk in the convenience store and Jordan ( Me :D ) throws a tantrum when Jordan has to give it away, Body shop, you get to try out 3 different shampoos with all of them having different dialogues to them. The toy store has a wiring puzzle, and the techstore has a creepy ass robot.
I also had to find a way to slowly build tension while keeping the shopping premise of the game continuous,
since the game is basically a walking simulator in a town I had to spend a lot of time just thinking what different types of events can happen in a town that will keep the player occupied? Like cars, maybe rats on the street, bystanders, cops. And with that I spend a huge amount of time just thinking of what I could do to make sure the player is never ever bored.
3. almost all of the city assets are not made by me, they come in a city pack. But all of the stores are modeled by me, all of the npcs are textured and rigged by me, about 90% of the interior models in each store are made by me, the shampoos are made by me and each have a goofy lil label made by me, since you spend most of the game time outside, then there's alot of assets in the city pack but id say its fair to say 60% me 40% city pack!
4. Yes 100%, I wouldn't say I've ever felt the need to quit working on the project, but I have had many days where I feel extremely exhausted, the thing with me is that I always feel a need to do something productive even though I may be tired, and while i was making the game i had alot of tests in school so i was really stressed aswell since im in junior high, there were some days where i came home from school and i felt like total shit and i barely had any energy left in me, but usually if i dont do something productive each day i end up feeling like i wasted that day. So then i force myself to work on the game so i feel that i have done something productive, so sometimes it's like a chore and sometimes it's like a reward when it comes to working on the game but it all came done to if i had other stuff i needed to do or some other times where i maybe couldn't come up with any interesting things to put in the game to keep the player occupied, because don't flow smoothly in game development, well thats when it can become a chore, but as soon as i came up an idea to fill the game with content, like for example the interaction with Ruben, then it starts becoming fun and like a reward because you know what you want to add in the game and what you need to do to make it good or fun.
But at the end of the day i had a blast working on the game, yes sure i had some days where i felt that the game was just annoying to work on, but honestly my main motivation to finish the game and to keep working is for comments like this
i am extremely thankful to have created something that people enjoy and all those days where i was burnt out, well yeah it doesn't matter because the payoff is huge if you push through.
If there's anymore questions you have I would love to answer them! :)
