Yeah, it's been publicized a bit in the U.S. The original Omicron is called the B1 strain, the new one the B2. Pfizer and Moderna are now working on a booster that is more tailored to the Omicron variant. It seems that many people either aren't taking it seriously or are so tired of taking precautions that they just want things to return to how they were before that they don't want to wear masks or distance. Last Saturday, I played the organ for a funeral in my church for someone who wasn't a member, and I was horrified to see that no one was wearing a mask. Since we have some in our congregation who are immune compromised, I spent the next hour opening the windows to air out the place and wiping everything down with sanitizing wipes. The positivity rate in my state in the NE U.S. has jumped from 2% to over 13% in the last month or so.
