How is the integrity of the submitted games determined?

This question is less for myself and more for a teamate I want to recruit. He's worried that since there is no theme that people can submit games they've been working before the Jam (in secret) to have a head start.

So I'm kind of curious myself: how is the integrity for the games determined?

I have a hunch on how they check stuff like that, but I'm not going to say it in fear of exposing it and people figuring out how to get around it

We'll be relying on a lot of different things.

But the truth is there is no way to 100% confirm it. No matter what measures we put in place there is always a way around it (and if people know all the ways we check they will just know better how to avoid it). The best thing to do is just join in and do your best. The best entries will be more of a reflection of the skills of the designers than the time they spent on it in my opinion.

Okay, thanks. I had a feeling it was this way. I don't think it'll be a big deal since I'm here for fun anyways :)

Ultimately I think the theme this time around does exactly what Nick said, especially if you look at how points are awarded. Gotta show what you can do, not how much time you spent on it.
