  • I like that the game had 2 clear phases of exploring and protecting the babies during the night. The levels seemed to be procedurally generated ? Wich tickles my programmer side haha The art was great, the ambience was cool, the fact that there were input hints onscreen was very useful. A well polished game. I could not figure out how to use the fire attack tho, the input hint was saying "Z" but Z wouldnt do anything. The other attack had a very generous hit box so it still felt cool. Also I got stuck in the first shelter I used, not sure why, I was unable to move and I had to reset. And I thiiiiiink I finished the game ? I reached a bunch of dragons and then there was a whitescreen, so not sure if it was a bug or something. Anyway, was a great game. Good job.
  • This is a really great game that's only held back by a few issues. I think the art is really really lovely, but during gameplay the camera is zoomed out so far it's honestly kind of hard to see what anything is. I wish the camera was zoomed in a bit more during gameplay, and you had the option to stop and zoom out to look around if you needed to. Combat was also a little unsatisfying. Partly because the camera zoomed out, and also because with no effects they felt weak and I wasn't quite sure where exactly they were doing damage. I also had an inconsistent bug where sometimes if I stopped partway through a combo, my character wouldn't be able to move until an enemy hit me. Also once I pressed the attack button after picking up my babies after the first encounter and instead of attacking it just froze my character and I had to reset. Also unfortunately in the second level when I got to the group of dragons in the woods the screen faded to white and then nothing happened, so that's where I stopped playing. Other than those issues though, I thought the game as a whole was really well put together and I could tell a lot of work went into it, and also an interesting take on the theme. I'd be interested to give it another go with some of the issues I listed above addressed and if I'm able to see the end.

Biggest thing for me is it’d be nice to have a clock. The warning is fine, but building the anticipationg for night and requiring me to remember where the last cave is that I saw would feel better for me game play wise.

Developer(+1)

See, we considered a clock but thought that might have been overkill. Glad you liked the anticipation build up tho!

I adore the art in this game, but after 4 or 5 nights of easy and repetitive combat and days that were short and didn't seem to be leading to any progress, I stopped playing. Which makes me sad, because everything else about this game is lovely, but it didn't seem to be going anywhere.

Developer(+1)

Totally fair. The combat balance was definitely ambitious, but we've learned a lot for next time about how to prioritize that sort of thing. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback!

The artwork is fantastic, sounds and music all came together beautifully.

I did encounter some bugs while playing that hurt my experience a tiny bit, audio from sound effects could be a bit wonky at times such as not matching up with the bite. I could never seem to get my fire breath to work during combat, it would work once then not again for a long time. My keyboard is qwerty if that helps.

But small bugs aside amazing job, fits the theme well and looks wonderful.

Developer(+1)

Ah, the firebreath was supposed to work that way. There was an icon in the bottom right that goes dark after you use your fire, then lights back up after a cooldown period to let you know when to use it again.

We could have been more clear about that, so we'll keep that in mind for next time!

Ahhhhh right, I see. I didn't notice that at all, just too eager to dish out some fire damage. Will give it another play with that in mind.

After playing the game a few more times there is something around the fire breath that isn't quite right. It does come out sometimes but feels like it takes a really long time if it ever does. I did notice the cooldown if I managed to use the fire breath but I think there maybe is something there that isn't working quite right.

Developer(+1)

Totally fair! Post jam, we're gonna be giving combat a big tweak so it feels better, so thank you for all of this feedback.

I liked the way you interpreted the theme very much. The world felt nice to explore and the art and animations are top-notch.

I have one minor suggestion/nitpick in that I forgot my children in the shelter in the first night and had to backtrack. This was because I didn't realize that the babies disappeared from the mother when I pressed space in front of the shelter.
Maybe it would have been good to begin the game with you having to pick the babies up to introduce this mechanic to the player.

But I enjoyed it very much, great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! We were worried that might happen re: babies, but didn't even think about having you pick them up to begin the game, that's a great idea!

The aesthetic is soooo great! I really enjoyed playing the game and the music is fitting perfectly, good job :)

Btw I think it was a problem of mine but I couldn't use neither the fire nor the bite attack. I could run away from the enemies without (maybe even too low) difficulties so yeah, not a big deal, but I would have loved to see how that worked

Developer

Thank you so much!

Regarding the attacks not working for you, do you use a qwerty layout keyboard? Another user mentioned having an issue because they used a qwertz layout, so I wonder if there is a similar issue here.

I'm sorry to hear the attacks didn't work, but thank you for leaving a comment anyway!

Very well made game with beautiful art and incredible music. It was a little too easy though and only the bite attack worked (this may be because i have a qwertz layout on my keyboard). I enjoyed the game a lot and think this game deserves to win! Thanks for the experience

Developer

Thank you!!! We definitely meant to make it harder, but jam games are notoriously hard to balance.

That's interesting about the fire attack, I'll have to look in to how different keyboard layouts affect keybinding in games!

Great concept, fits the theme very well, and nice peaceful atmosphere. The art is incredible. One thing I didn't quite enjoy the attack phases - first of all the monsters came a bit too slowly and were easy to defeat, and the controls were a bit stiff. But overall, amazing! (Did I mention the art is great). Oh one thing, was there meant to be a cutscene planned for at the end?

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing! Monsters were definitely supposed to be more frequent, but we didn't have a chance to balance it before time ran out ;^;  there WAS supposed to be a little victory screen at the end, but it broke at the last minute!! Sorry about any confusion!
