Just ran the game again and got another freeze upon receiving 'Paraszt is making their move.'
A couple more things :-)
I noticed pieces spawning on the pale blue tiles.
Something that may balance the price of the pieces is to use chess piece values used by chess AI: Pawns =1 , Bishops and Knights =3, Rooks = 5, Queen = 9.
