Intro: The dissonance in the minor second of the melody immediately sets up a feeling of unease, but the string comes in and adds a little warmth. I think that solo string with harp accompaniment is an interesting choice and sets up a sparseness that helps explain why your later seasonal progression starts in the winter.
Seasonal Danger Approaches: I like that you brought the harp arpeggios back in reminiscing the prior track. The bass pedal gives this track a very ominous feeling and gives the sense of impending danger as the track title suggests.
Winter: Ah the sleigh bells. Classic happy snow sound for sure! I find it interesting that your seasonal cycle starts in winter whereas many other soundtracks I’ve heard so far (my own included) tend to start with spring. I think that this works well especially with the light-hearted melody and not starting too heavy.
Spring: What a jovial piece! I like the layer of the tin whistle and the fiddle. This is a fun jig style and appreciate the complex rhythm in the hand clap in an atypical time signature. I’ve never heard of a bouzouki instrument before, but whatever it is, it works well with these other instruments!
Summer: You have eclectic musical styles in this soundtrack! I think this adds an extra element to your seasonal variations when you not only change your instruments to fit each season theme, but you also completely shift the entire tonality of the track sound. This classic rock vamp fits very well for the summer season.
Autumn: I like the melody that you set up with the flute and appreciate the slow rock underground vibes. It would have been nice to hear some chordal variation, but I like that you implied different chords with the flute in the B section.
Battle: The call and response type of melody works well to drive this piece forward as well as the 8th note pulsing.
Victory and Defeat: What an interesting idea to include stingers in your soundtrack! You definitely capture the triumph in the victory theme and the despair in the defeat themes.
Finale: This is a good bookend piece and I appreciate the return of the minor second interval dissonant notes, even though they are in passing this time. The falling melody lines make me think this would have been equally as effective as your autumn theme.
Overall: You have so much variety and are adept at so many musical styles. I think this genre variation further enhances the feelings of each season and makes your soundtrack unique compared to many others. Great job and thank you for sharing your music!
