Mac Download Tutorial

(I have no idea if this can be applied to everyone, as I am on Catalina, but hopefully this helps) (This will be centered around my version)

1. Download The Unarchiver on the App Store on their site (you can probably figure out how to install it, there's lots of tutorials)

2. Download the appropriate file according to your system (64bit or silicon)

3. Get the zip file, drag it to your desktop, then right click it and choose open with The Unarchiver, the default doesn't work for all I know and results in an unopenable Crab Game

4. Let it run for a few seconds and you should end up with Mac_64Bit

5. Go to steam, install Crab Game there, run it once, then close it (I know it states that its only for windows, but it runs on mac, this step is crucial)

6.  (credit to ssasiY)  Go to finder, press cmd+shift+g, and a window should pop up, insert /Users/*yourusernamegoeshere*/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common

7.  Now find the file with the name Crab Game, double click it, and there should be CrabGame and SavesDir

8. leave the window there, now right click on the Mac_64Bit you got from the zip file and press Open, DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK IT, it should pop up something along the lines of "Mac_64Bit is not from an identified developer" , press open anyway, and it should open

9. Close the game, rename the Mac_64Bit to CrabGame, and go back to the window with the two files

10. Replace the renamed CrabGame with the one in the folder

11. Close the Finder window, and open up Steam again, and press Play, it should work with no error messages, crashing,  or no servers

This is a quickly made tutorial and it isn't applicable to everybody.

I hope I made myself clear and optimistically, I hope it helped you

If there's any problem leave comments below and I'll try to help, but I am seriously no expert, so don't expect much.

Thanks for reading

Awesome, thanks!! Works for me on Catalina 10.15.7. Except at Step 8, it didn't give me "Mac_64Bit is not from an identified developer" error. Instead, it said the app was damaged and to Move to Trash.

To fix this, I used the command Dani gave: "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine [app path]". App path is the full name of wherever you installed the game (for it, it was "/Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/Mac_64Bit.app").  So the full command was "xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Users/MY_USERNAME/Downloads/Mac_64Bit.app".

Open Terminal in the download folder and type the above command, OR select the game file in Finder, go to Finder > Services > New Terminal at Folder, then type "cd ..; xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Mac_64Bit.app".

After doing this, I was able to open the game like in Step 8 (at this step, it opens but shows no servers). Then I followed Steps 9-11 and opened from Steam - servers now show and I can play.

Also, here is link to download The Unarchiver: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-unarchiver/id425424353?mt=12

For those curious:

Voice Chat DOES WORK on Mac 1.326 for me. It DID NOT work on 1.29.

this works!!!

thanks dude very cool

Deleted 2 years ago

both versions doesn't work for me :(

Thanks for adding to the tutorial

didnt work. It just crashes and after a while a yellow triangle shows up saying it crashed unexpectedly.

no idea why that happens for some people, hope you find the solution

do you mean the intell64 as the mac 64 bit?

yes, I guess he changed the file name in the 1.33 update, it works exactly the same though

ur great bud

np glad to help!

Hey, i have a question, for step 6 which username do you add? your steam username or your computer user username? also do you need spaces if its computer user? i tried this step with both but only my home file came up

NVM THIS WORKS THANK YOU SOO SOO MUCH

Hey I am having this same issue. Can you please let me know how you fixed it?

It’s your computer username. You can also do ~/Library, ~ is your home directory

So "/Users/~/Library~/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common" ?

No, it would be ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common

~/ is your home directory not your username.

thank you so much dude

Also works for Monterey 12.0.1 if you use the command Dani gave

Hi Samuelistic! On step 3 when I right-click intel64, it doesn't give me the option to "open with..." it just says open, and when I open it it says "The application "Intel64" can't be opened". pls help :'(

hey! This should work if you have The Unarchiver installed, I'm guessing you used the original Archive Utility and that results in the can't be opened message, there's a link to download The Unarchiver somewhere above, it's completely safe and open the zip file with that. It should solve your problem.

Ok will try this, Thanks!

Do you know how to install on High Sierra?

it should work about the same, give it a try, but high sierra is seriously outdated so I'm not sure if it works

Does anyone else have a huge input delay when playing on Mac M1??!

Change the video settings to match your computer, that fixed my lagged input.

For step 6 when i try to search the file i don’t see CrabGame in it, how do I fix this

hmm you should be able to find it in the /Users/*yourusernamegoeshere*/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common path, if you don't have Crab Game there maybe you haven't downloaded it on steam yet?

(1 edit)

For Step 11 Steam keeps verifying my files before lauching the game i.e. Steam replaces my replaced CrabGame file to the older version (the one you would initially download from Steam). Even if I uninstall, reinstall, then replace to prevent Steam from auto-verifying files it still pops up saying missing execute. I can run 1.3323 and 1.22 on their own (without any server showing up obviously). Pls help :(

yeah I've just realized that problem today, I tried it out for myself, and I am facing the same problem. I'm not sure what to do either, but I'll try to experiment a little bit, and if I get it working I'll update the guide. Sorry

Im on Mac and my game runs fine on steam, when I went to run it on steam it just worked lol

this was 9 days ago lmao, if you looked at the post I put above i said this guide is obsolete now as the developer has released official mac and linux builds on steam
