the crumpled blacktop crunching under my feet
and I looked down at the muddy marsh ground and saw
her face
her beautiful pink cheeks, the rose of her lips, her skin a precious pale
I stroked her hair, so unaware
of why I have been sent to this white-walled place
I cannot see her face here
I must see her face
