Your proposed modifications sound good, just be sure that your new level organization involves making the levels Unique. Simply recoloring enemies and lasers is not likely to earn full points as a modification but if you explain design reasoning behind the change it is more likely to earn points (changed color to make them stand out more, changed color to highlight more powerful enemy, etc.)
