For some reason, it will not let me add the png as a terrain, it seems to only want to be an annotation, can you please help? It should be set to 1 on the background for bare grass, and 31 for cobblestone. Also, I am starting simple to get a feel for how to do it, so can you please tell me what I am doing wrong, so I know for next time?

I have seen others online have trouble with .PNG specifically, so, you could attempt it with .BMP. I'll try your image out later this evening or tomorrow.

Thanks, I tried to do it as a bmp, but it still does the same, I do know though that I saw some settings for export as bmp in gimp, maybe its one of those?

Ah, the image has to be converted to grayscale! So in Gimp, go to Image -> Mode -> Grayscale. I'll edit my instructions.
