Dealing with excess population and army units

I have to start with saying that I love this game. It is quite simple but you still have to plan a lot to optimize. There is a long way to go but right now it is just lovely

A few questions:

How do you deal with excess army units? If you have spearmen and bowmen and then remove their buildings, you can't get rid of them yourself.

As for population, it is not really easy to deal with. Once you have 58 population, you have 58 population. Or am I missing something? How do I get rid of the extra people?

There are somethings that can't be left out of a game like this.

1. Trees have always been extremely important to human civilization. It should be used as fuel for smelters, bakers, etc to put more pressure on getting lumber.

2. Food/bread needs to be tradable.

3. Once you have a thriving couple of city states you should be able to colonize. Instead of creating ome settler for 1 population you should have the option to create a colonizer for ~10 and load it up with maybe a warehouse worth of supplies. When they set up you will instantly be able to get it rolling since you will have 10 idle population, resources for admin centre and houses, and be able to build a tradepost.

Pathing, AI challenge, diplomacy are inevitable and are needed. But I feel like people don't mention my points, which I think are obvious.

Again, great game. Will definitely send you more money now once I have played it!

Army units don't use any resources once you remove their buildings so I don't see much point in trying to get rid of the units. I'm pretty sure that if you order units to rest and destroy the building while the unit is inside, unit will disappear with the building. Never tested that, though.

1&2) Both suggestions are implemented in my mod

3) Or you can load a trade cart or a boat with resources and send it together with a bunch of settlers.

Hi, thanks for playing, and for your feedback. Replying point by point:

  • In the future I plan to have military units without a barracks suffer attrition and die, but for now they will hang around until killed.
  • The only ways to reduce population are to create settlers, or kill them.
  • In ancient Mesopotamia wood was too rare to burn, other fuels would be used instead (dung, brush). I've had some good suggestions around coal and charcoal (which could be produced from wood) for further bakery and bronze smelter upgrades, but  they seem low priority for now.
  • You can trade wheat, is that not enough?
  • You can send multiple settlers, and have them join the settlement once it's founded.
