cannabis refers to the plant itself, marijuana is the plant after it has been prepared for smoking, ie: dried, stripped of stems, de-seeded if needed and chopped up, i don't see how that could be considered prerogative .. its like the difference between "cow" and "Smoked Prime Rib Roast"
