I'm sorry that didn't work for you, I suppose the best I can offer is for you to check back in occasionally in case whatever this issue is becomes resolved.
Edit: I see you're not using Windows 10, did you try the 32-bit version per chance?
This may be fixed in the next update. This is a Ren'py bug that just recently got fixed. I'll update the engine for the next build, so let me know if that fixes it for you!
