My advice is to make it so the arrow keys are movement and aswd is for movement or vice versa, or even consider having mouse be movement, and also make it so you can hold to keep firing. You could add enemies that shoot for more variety. I'd make the upgrades only last a finite time, but stack (so you could have three sets of two arrows that also give knockback, if you have all at once).

Thanks for suggestions! Totally agree and think the gameplay would be better with this modifications. Maybe I implement/test them later.
