Hey there! I wish you all the luck for your university project. For colorswapping you can use any modern graphical editor (e.g. Gimp -> Colors -> Map -> Color Exchange). There are usually several tutorials for that :) I personally use Aseprite which has an option to replace all pixels of one color.
