Yeah ikr the only way to play it on the quest rn is with the expensive oculus link cable
You are mistaken. Link can be used with alot of different usb cables, even usb2. It is however recommended to use a usb3-3.2 for best performance.
you can use virtual desktop too with the vr patch from sidequest
