Dude I stumbled by this game on complete accident and absolutely love it. The simplicity is typical of the genre, but it's got just enough artistic charm and the writing is fucking superb. Not that you asked, but I'd love to chat/listen/brainstorm if you ever want someone to bounce ideas off of. I haven't touched C++ in a while and I know Unity is C# but I definitely know enough to be useful for technical brainstorming too.
One thing I thought of while playing was implementing some kind of counter to say "don't show this text again if there is other un-shown text." You could still cycle through it randomly for a greater variety of encounters, or let certain text repeat a couple times per cycle if it makes sense to do so. I found myself wondering if I had seen all the text, and as long as you have new text coming in the encounter still feels like it hasn't ended.
