It's hard to tell since there are tons of devices out there, and they probably all have different speeds and specifications. As you mentioned, you can play around with the min/max settings and see if it helps.

They are in-game scripts using the plug2in plugin. It is possible to modify them; you can find them in the CommonEvents.json, but it won't be easy without RPG Maker.

That is definitely weird. Can you try Proton on Steam with the Windows version? That should work.

I know the native Linux version needs some tinkering around for some versions of Linux, but I'm really not well-versed with that.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but the chess puzzle has to be solved accordingly to the poem (and not by checking the king). This was a deliberate choice since we couldn't assume the player knows how to play chess.
