Pets aren't available in the itch.io version of the game, on PC they're locked behind use of Steam. For some users, this means they're completely inaccessible, since for the past almost entire year, the Steam client has been a known health hazard (the problem was caused with an update in late October and Valve were advised of the problem in early November, if not earlier).
