Strange thing. I removed the game, reinstalled it, redownloaded the modernizer and now it works. Only crashes on exit, but other than that - no issues.
Man, I hope you didn't spend too much time trying to find the issue, because I feel really bad reporting a problem that probably didn't even exist. I just needed to try to reinstall it a few times, after rebooting my PC as well.
