Update without progress loss?

I got the game in the charity bundle and greatly enjoyed completing most of the things to do in the game. I recently saw the new content on YouTube and realized I hadn't seen it. While I love the game and the feeling of progression as I played, I think completing the game again to the point I have all the items and feathers I could want would be a pain. Is there any way I could modify my existing files such that I could continue in my present save with the new features seamlessly added in? If only I got it on steam where the update would just sort itself out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

tldr; Could I somehow preserve my progress from the older version and get the new features from the latest updates?

If you download the new EXE, it should automatically pick up your old save data. Note there is one bug (I'm working on) which will cause one treasure chest not to open when using an old save file

So, wait, how does that work? I have both zips downloaded and extracted. Do I stick the new EXE into the old folder? I have little to no knowledge on this sort of thing. Awesome to get a response from the dev though. Great game (I'm sure you've heard).

Edit/Update: I tried (in copy versions of everything to be safe) to copy the old EXE into the new folder and run that. I believe that this worked. Anything else I should consider or is this the entirety of the recommended solution?

Sorry that I wasn't clear! The save data is stored somewhere else entirely - so you could delete the entire directory and redownload the game, and your save should still be there.

That said, it's probably best not to mix and match files from different versions, since it could have weird side effects.

Oh, alright, that's a lot simpler. I guess I really overcomplicated things for myself. Thanks for the help!
