I remember when I was a kid and I loved to draw. I would doodle in note pads and copy my favorite artists. Then one day I saw a kid in class draw something and it was light years ahead of what I could draw so I felt like I wasn't good enough.
I then received support from my family and went to some art classes and got a bit better. My art wasn't great, but the art that I did create was unique and interesting to the people I showed it too. So I started drawing a bit more. Then I did some research on my favorite comic book artists and read an article on Jim Lee who talked about his work ethic. He said he sat down for 8 hours a day 5 days a week drawing. I thought, I can't get motivated to spend an hour on this. How am I going to spend 40 a week. So I left drawing behind.
I pushed all that stuff to the side and now I regret it a little. I think I sort of went through what you went through. I say all this because I think you have a wonderful little game that is absolutely unique. It's such a wonderful little story, even if it is just a short few minutes that we get to enjoy.
There isn't really an answer to overcoming the block. Some people spend their whole lives trying to write a single book while Stephen King has a hundred of them. Maybe it does take sitting down like Jim and spending 8 hours a day 5 days a week drawing. Maybe it's just being the guy by the bay painting the exact same landscape thousands of different ways.
I don't know, but keep entering these jams because you do have a talent not only in art, but getting your art across. Good luck and I hope you keep creating.
