I had hoped for the same thing with the Alpha. I'd mentioned it would have been cool to do a "tutorial" of Ace in his space van thing (before he actually arrives) to do stuff. Like he hits something, so things get jostled in the van. So the game tells you, "You need to get your Item_01, but it looks like the Parlavac landed on it. Take the hand icon and click on the Parlavac and drag the mouse until the arrows turn green to move it." (Move it, and be like "Excellent! Oh, but it looks like the bolt you need has slid into the vent. Click on the icon to control Rooter. Use Rooter's nose icon to dispatch his wire to use the magnetic tip to get the bolt.") So on and so on. 
So by the time Ace arrives, you as a player, have done a mini tutorial to be familiar with the general concept of how the controls work.

yep something like that would be amazing, although I wouldn't be surprised (or maybe just hope) if they added such a thing before release and are tweaking it based on what beta testers are getting stuck on the most.
